FPL BGW29: Data Scout XI Results

A really disappointing game week for all, including ourselves. Some errors in judgement were made this weekend where the popular picks failed to impress. This game week overall averaged 12 points, so despite a low score we did have a +3.

GK Points: 2. Flekken’s chances of a clean sheet ended just ten minutes into the match, with Burnley scoring a penalty. No save points for him this week.

DEF Points: -1. A horror start for Brentford led to Reguilon being sent off, slightly contentiously, for a foul in the box which led to Burnley’s first goal. He scored -3. He was a 50/50 decision and was put in the team ahead of Robinson who sat on our bench.. who scored eleven points. Pedro Porro failed to light up any attacks for Spurs against Fulham in their 3-0 defeat at Craven Cottage, and Doughty was substituted at half-time for Luton.

MID Points: 9. Kudus and Bowen failed to get on the score sheet or setup a goal against Aston Villa. Bowen did register an assist but the goal was chalked off for handball, and Kudus recieved a yellow card. Captain Son and Maddison for Spurs didn’t appear too much in his match vs Fulham in which they lost. Really poor weekend for the midfield, but again they brought in the most points than any other position.

FWD: 5. Toney, Watkins, and Morris. Toney has failed to score in five matches now, so it’s not too much of a suprise. But Watkins and Morris have been in great form recently and to see them both fail to score or assist excerts a great deal of pain. Toney also recieved a yellow card.

The overall average points across FPL this weekend were 12, so we gained a +3 on the average score, but it was still a missed opportunity. On our shortlist, we had Muniz, Wood, and Fofana, who all scored this weekend, bringing in 30 points on their own. But our decision was based more on not taking risks this weekend, which appeared to be a poor decision.

The reason we looked at Wood & Muniz was due to the fact forwards vs Luton have averaged 5.0 points a match, and forwards vs Spurs have averaged 4.0. Missed opportunity.

While we wait for DGW28 to end, let’s discuss the blank game week 29. This is the ideal weekend to use your free hit if you haven’t been tempted to use it already. Only four matches are to be played this weekend, and clean sheets are looking unlikely.

NOTE: *this article was written before the final game of DGW28: Bournemouth v Luton. Data for Luton players are correct at time of writing.

GK – Flekken, Brentford

Flekken faces a Burnley side which goalkeepers have averaged 3.8 points against this season. This match is probably the most likely to see a clean sheet out of the four, with Burnley failing to score in their last two home fixtures. Flekken has failed to keep a clean sheet in his last three away matches, last one coming in their 2-0 win away at Wolves in GW24. Burnley have scored 0.9 goals at home this season, this could be his best chance for a clean sheet.

DEF – Doughty, Luton *

Doughty is back in our team and we’re expecting him to be in a lot of teams this weekend. He has registered the most crosses in the league (246) and has three goals & assists in his last five away matches. Luton don’t have to win for Doughty to collect attacking returns, he sits in our back line for this weekend.

DEF – Pedro Porro, Tottenham Hotspur

Pedro Porro returned from injury which saw him miss their last two game weeks, returning to the side with a clean sheet in a drumming of Aston Villa. Tottenham face a Fulham side who have been in good goal scoring form recently, scoring ten goals in their last five matches. Tottenham managed to get a clean sheet against free scoring Villa last weekend, they could do it again versus Fulham. But his main reason for inclusion is his potential for attacking returns as a forward thinking full back. He has collected eight assists from defence this season.

DEF – Reguilon, Brentford

If fit to play, Reguilon will make our team. Since playing for Brentford he has looked a threat in their attack, collecting three assists in his seven matches. While there is a chance for a clean sheet against Burnley, we’re taking our hopes on him providing a return in attack assisting Toney or Wissa.

MID – Kudus, West Ham

Since returning from AFCON early, Kudus hasn’t quite hit the form he was in prior to leaving. However he does have three assists in his last seven, but the goals appear to have temporarily dried up. West Ham have started to score again after failing to do so between GW23-25, Kudus could provide some return at home vs a tough test vs Aston Villa. Aston Villa have also failed to win away at West Ham since a 2-1 win in April 2011.

MID – Maddison, Tottenham Hotspur

Maddison has been back from injury for six matches now, in which he has returned four goals & assists. Away from home this season he has averaged 7.6 points a game, and this weekend he travels away at Fulham. Tottenham have won their last seven visits to Craven Cottage in the league and travel there having yet to fail to score a goal in a match this season.

MID – Bowen, West Ham

West Ham have not won a single game since GW13 when Bowen has failed to score or assist. During GW20-25 they lost three and drew three, with Bowen returning zero attacking returns. West Ham drew to Burnley in their last match in which Bowen again failed to provide any attacking returns. He has averaged 5.1 points a game this season at home, and this game week they host Aston Villa.

MID – Son (c), Tottenham Hotspur

Away from home this season, Son has averaged 8.0 points a game. He has scored and assisted six times in his last five away matches. He travels to Fulham, a team who have not beaten Spurs at home in the league since October 2010.

FWD – Toney, Brentford

Despite failing to score or assist in his last four matches, Toney is up against a Burnley side who cannot keep a clean sheet. Since his return in GW21, he has been involved in 36% of Brentford’s goals in that period. He is due a goal, and it probably should arrive in this match. Forwards against Burnley have averaged 4.4 points a game, Toney is currently averaging 4.3.

FWD – Watkins, Aston Villa

Watkins has a league high of thirty-one goals & assists this season. Away from home he has averaged 7.1, which is higher than his overall average of 6.6. He faces a West Ham side which forwards have done well against, averaging 4.1 points a game. He has eight goals and assists in his last three away matches.

FWD – Morris, Luton *

Despite not having won once in their last nine matches, Carlton Morris has provided seven goals and assists. He has averaged 5.4 points a game in this period and is facing Nottingham Forest at home, a team which forwards have averaged 4.9 points a game against. He has also scored in each of his last three home matches.

Subs: Areola (GK, West Ham), Douglas Luiz (MID, Aston Villa), Robinson (DEF, Fulham), Digne (DEF, Aston Villa).
