  • Best Month: February, +£167.95 profit. October had a better return on investment with 56.6%, but there were only six bets. Also picked up the most bet points in this month too, +17.5. November came in at 2nd with +12.
  • Worst Month: August, -£104.25 loss. No other month had a worse return on investment.
  • September and October saw less bets than the other months due to me building a new model, and the start of the Premier League / Championship which I avoided betting on straight away.

Bank Growth

I only dipped below £0 after the 2nd bet and never went near it again. February’s early big profits have provided a nice balance to work with throughout the year. I took a hefty run of losses between bets 220 to 250, likely bad variance but I would like to credit the upturn in results afterwards towards the new model version I curated after taking a small break.

I have recently added betting points to my results. These points signify how many bets have been won over how many have been lost. For example: in February I won +17.5 more bets than I lost. The “.5” is there because with Asian Handicap bets you can win or lose half a bet.

This makes the money result easy to understand, e.g. in these articles I stake £10 a bet, so being +17.5 bets up means I would be up around +£175.00 (which is correct, in Feb I profited £167.95)

Team Selection Performance

I had a lot of joy backing Nottingham Forest during their over performing run last season, netting a profit of £66.10 from 11 bets (+7 points), as well as Crystal Palace’s good start this season (£40.05 from 15 bets, +4.5 points). Backing Brentford and Everton have been good for me also, bringing in a total of £80.70 from 16 bets (+8).

It’s been good to bet against Chelsea in the past year. I have made a profit of £43.60 while backing the teams who played them (7 bets, +4 points). The same goes for Liverpool too, £26.20 from 9 bets (+3 points). Man Utd is also in this list, £24.00 from 8 bets (+2.5).

Had a rough time backing Bournemouth, they’re a hard team to work with as they prey on variance in their tactical style. Made a loss of -£56.20 from 8 bets (-5.5). Backing Liverpool this year wasn’t fun either, they trailed off towards the end of the season (after the league was won) and have only just started to recover their form over Christmas. Lost -£22.40 from 6 bets (-2).

Article Performance

Finally, I’d like to share my cumulative Profit & Loss over the course of my article publications. Had a sharp dip between articles 38-43 where I failed to make a profit for six articles in a row, losing -£117.05. This was followed by four winning articles which returned £148.20.

It’s been a steady year, starting off exceptionally well with February’s wonderful profits, but I haven’t grown the total profit/loss since then by much at all. I have read elsewhere that most profits during a season are made in the 2nd half of the campaign (between January – May) as the results are more predictable. Maybe that’s what happened at the start of this?

One thing I have noted while writing up this report is that I have been placing a LOT less bets each month compared to the first three months (51 -> 47 -> 51 -> 26 -> 22). I will make an effort to be more consistent from now to publish these betting articles, life has slightly got in the way recently.
